The Dolphins have gotten a jump on free agency. The team has announced the signings of Cameron Wake and Ethan Kilmer, both former Nittany Lions.
Originally known as Derek, Wake now uses his middle name while playing the past two seasons in the Canadian Football League for the British Columbia Lions. He has accumulated 137 tackles, 39 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, 8 forced fumbles, 5 passes defensed, and 2 blocked field goals in his two seasons. He lead the CFL in sacks in both 2007 (16) and 2008 (23) and was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player after each year, as well as earning Rookie of the Year accolades in '07. Wake, who turns 27 on January 30, has the combination of size and speed 3-4 defenses covet for their OLBs. At 6-3, 260 Wake will be pushing for a role opposite Joey Porter. There were at least 8 other teams interested in the Penn State alum.
Kilmer was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He has played mostly special teams, while also seeing some time at safety. He will have a chance to make the team as a 5th safety and provide some much needed pop on special teams.
