In recruiting news, Penn State currently has a solid class. The rank as of now is around 13-17 but could jump into the Top 10 if Jelani Jenkins and Justin Brown commit. Jenkins is set to announce any minute now and Brown will do so this afternoon.
UPDATE: Jenkins has committed to Florida. Boo.
UPDATE 2: Here is why Boston College is not in line for any great LB prospects.
BC has had 16 LBs play in the NFL... 16! That's it, in over 70 years of records, BC has managed 16 LBs in the NFL. Of those 16 only 9 were drafted, 7 were undrafted. The highest drafted BC linebacker? Pete Cronan in the 2nd round (51st pick) in 1977 by the Seahawks. So yeah, no 1st round LBs for BC. Also, no NFL All Pro's and no BC LB has ever won a Nagurski, Bednarik, or Butkus award in college. There is a total of 4 pro bowls amongst these guys and only 20 years of starting experience. Perhaps the most decorated BC LB is... Bill Romanowski. Nice.Update 3: Justin Brown is Penn State bound! Woo hoo!
Now Penn State, on the other hand, has a great linebacking pedigree. There have been 52 PSU linebackers in the NFL, and 48 of them were drafted with 4 going in round 1. The Nittany Lions have 4 Bednarik and 2 Butkus award winners. There is 131 years of NFL starting experience and a combined 19 Pro Bowl games and 7 All Pro berths. The most decorated LB Penn State Alum is undoubtedly Jack Ham, who is in the Hall of Fame. Ham won 4 Super Bowls with the Steelers and was named to the NFL's Decade Team of the 70's and the 75th Anniversary Team. Boo yah!
Herzlich add another to the list.
