Well the college sports scene is really slowing down. Basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, lacrosse, and women's golf are all finished. Not much to touch on this week. Even less next week.
- After defeating Iowa in their opener last Friday, the baseball team played two more versus the Hawkeyes on Saturday and Sunday. The Nittany Lions won a thriller in 11 innings during game two, when 1B Cory Wine drilled a home run to tie the game and then a double in the 11th which proved to be the game winner. Their two-game win streak came to an abrupt end thanks to teh Hawkeyes the next day. Penn State then lost to Villanova at home and has dropped the first two games to Minnesota. They conclude their regular season today 2:05 PM versus the Golden Gophers.
- The softball team ended their season on a low note, dropping both matches to the Buckeyes. The team finished 19-27 on the year.
- The men's golf team had last weekend off but returned to the greens on Thursday for teh start of the NCAA Regionals. After the first round the team was tied for 11th. They improved to 10th place after yesterday's round and hope to jump up a few more spots during today's competition. Penn State must finish in the Top 5 to advance to the finals as a team.
- The Penn State track and field team had another great showing, this time at the Penn State Open. Two new school records were set and three more individuals qualified for the NCAA Regionals. The team started Big Ten Championships play yesterday and that continues the rest of the weekend. The team will then be off until after Memorial Day when the NCAA Regionals begin May 29th.
