Bad Wikipedia: Version 1

While looking up things about Bill Cowher and this whole PSU speculation, I decided to check out everybody's favorite source, Wikipedia, and found a gem of a lie.

(Click on the picture so you can actually see it but if you're too lazy to do that, it reads: "Recently, it has been discovered that the Cowher's are selling their new house in NC because the Coach is about to sign a contract to become the next head coach of Penn State, following Joe Paterno's retirement in 2009. Accompanied with their new coach the Nittany Lions also added another member to the team, top recruit Terrelle Pryor.")

Not only is that a lie, it doesn't make sense. The whole PSU thing was only a rumor to begin with and this establishes it as fact. It also states that JoePa is retiring in 2009, something widely speculated but far from certain. Finally, this clever writer decides to stick in that PSU got Terrelle Pryor, which is not true (..yet..). Either way, if we do get Pryor, he'd be here before Cowher would be so yeah....what the heck?

FYI: I'm too lazy to change it and found it amusing so hurry up and check it out for yourself before somebody with a conscience decides to fix it.

1-Day Dream Put to Rest...For Now

After speculation surfaced about Bill Cowher being the next coach at Penn State, many Nittany Lion fans were ecstatic. Well they can all come down from Cloud 9 now. College Football Talk has a story from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that says Cowher isn't moving to PA. In fact, he is only moving a distance of two miles from his old him in NC.

Cowher said yesterday with a laugh that "I'm not going anywhere," after Internet reports noted that his house was for sale and rumors linked him with another coaching job, this one at Penn State.

"Put that to rest," Cowher said firmly yesterday. "I'm staying here."

He' staying in NC...for now. There are no facts yet known as to why Cowher had a slumber party with Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley February 24-25. There have been rumors that his daughter is enrolling to or already attends Penn State. There have been no confirmations.

For now Nittany Lion fans can return to their countdown to the Blue-White game. But, in my opinion, we have not heard the last of Cowher to Penn State. Stay tuned.

Is Cowher JoePa's Heir?

While diligently working this afternoon I checked the Pro Football Talk rumor mill, as I do about every 5 minutes (hey, I like knowing stuff as soon as it happens). I read the most recent rumor headline "COACH CHIN ON THE MOVE?" and then continue to read the summary of the rumor. Hmm where is the Cowher wagon rumor to be heading now? Huh. A college team? Interesting. I wonder what college team needs a new coach? With my interest piqued, I decide to head on over to College Football Talk, PFT's sister site, and check it out. When the front page loads I see this:

Click to enlarge chin...I mean front page image.

HOLY. CRAP. Seriously? Obviously it is all speculation at this time but is it a possibility? Why not?!?! Everyone knew he would eventually become a coach again. He loved his time in Pittsburgh, so why not try Happy Valley? Here is what the rumor says:
Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher is expected to get back in the football coaching game in 2009. Most likely, that would involve working for whatever NFL owner is willing to give him the best combination of multimillion-dollar salary and control over personnel decisions.

But Cowher could also decide to coach in college. And we've heard from some Penn State fans who are extremely excited about the possibility that he could return to Pennsylvania.

The Penn State football web site Laschout.com reported Monday that Cowher was on the campus at Penn State on February 24 and 25, and that he stayed overnight at the home of Athletic Director Tim Curley. And then the site reported today that this real estate listing is for Cowher's home in North Carolina. Might Cowher be putting that home on the market because he plans to be coaching elsewhere 10 months from now?

At this point, it's too early to say. Joe Paterno is 81 years old, and some observers think he's heading into his final season. Then again, "some observers" have thought that for the last decade. But taking over for Paterno would likely be seen as an attractive opportunity for Cowher, and Cowher would definitely be seen as an attractive candidate for Penn State.

Wow. It's too early to believe this but imagine the impact. A big time, successful coach succeeding the greatest college coach of all time. Imagine what this will do for recruiting. Many Penn Staters have feared that the successor will be JayPa. Nittany Lion faithful were hoping for current defensive coordinator Tom Bradley or luring Greg Schiano from Rutgers. But Cowher? Wow. Just wow. Again, it's early and this is a rumor and mere speculation. But I don't mind this speculation. Chin in '09.

2007 NFL Predictions - Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers - The hiring of Mike Tomlin will prove to be the right move...but not this year. Pittsburgh will come to love Bill Cowher's successor, but it won't come without growing pains. While I believe Pittsburgh will actually perform better this year than last, anything short of a Super Bowl run in the Steel City is deemed a failure. They won't get that this year. Ben Roethlisberger - injury free! - will play much better this year and will single-handedly win them 1 or more games. But they are no match for the Bengals or Ravens again this year. Maybe next year.

Prediction - 3rd AFC North
