2007 Poinsettia Bowl Champions: Utah Utes*

I knew it was only a matter of time before some official somewhere confirmed the refs messed up at the end of the Poinsettia Bowl. For those that don't know, a Ute fumbled the ball near the Navy goal line but the ball hit the pylon then bounced out of bounds. Rule #whatever states that when that occurs, you have a touchback. The replay official screwed up and said Utah ball on the 1. However, the Midshipmen made a great goal line stand and forced a turnover on downs, getting the ball on their own one. While the Midshipmen did in fact get the ball, they were forced to squeeze their way out of their endzone and ended turning the ball over on downs themselves on about the 20 or so. Had the ref not screwed up, who knows what would have happened with the momentum shift, plus, Navy wouldn't have to call a couple plays just to get breathing room. While I do admit, Utah probably deserved to win the game, it's pathetic that a ref could blow such an easy call. Even Lou Holtz was saying in the booth how much of an easy call it was!! When Lou Holtz is smarter than your replay official, you have a major problem.

I got cooler participation trophies for little league baseball

At least Navy didn't miss out on any cool trophy...
