Mock Draft Update - 4/20/2009

Well folks the draft is Saturday. Time really does fly when your making mocks every week. Let's get right to it, my FINAL 2009 mock.

My 2009 NFL Mock Draft - FINAL
I started my mock way back in September. Only about half of those listed in my first round in Version 1 remain in the first round in Version 10. Of course way back then we didn't know what underclassmen would make the jump so players like Brandon Spikes and Taylor Mays, two big talents returning to school, appear there as well. We've come a long way in the last 7 months.

This final update includes the recent Buffalo/Philadelphia trade, obviously. This week marks the return of the "Will Also Consider" and commentary columns (available in the PDF version). Through my first 9 mocks I strayed away from Matt Stafford, knowing he was being overvalued because of his position and the Lions' needs. Well I still feel that way but evidence certainly points to Stafford being the pick. Most likely a mistake but I chose to put him atop my mock because I want to be as accurate as I can be. Check out my final 2009 mock draft below and don't forget to download the PDF for all the extras!

MOCK COMPARISONS
It's crunch time, 5 days prior to the draft, so most of the "big boys" updated. Click the image below to see a wide variety of mocks from around the interwebs. Oddly enough, Scouting the Sports has Demetrius Byrd in their latest 1st round and today it was revealed he was in a car accident. I never felt Byrd was a Day 1 prospect, let a lone a first rounder, but they have him in the last few picks.

Click to enlarge comparisons for 4/20/2009.

PROSPECT UPDATES
  • Rumors are swirling that both RB Chris Wells and OT Eugene Monroe have some medical concerns that could drop their stock.
  • The positive substance test results have been released and there were fewer than 10 players on it. The list excluded USC LBs Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews as well as Boston College DT B.J. Raji and Illinois CB Vontae Davis, all of who had been linked to marijuana or steroids. Those stories have been proven erroneous.
  • One player who was named, Percy Harvin, has not spoke out against the accusation of marijuana usage. It's been whispered that Harvin has some character concerns that will drop him to round 2.
  • I truly believe we'll see many trades this year, starting with Jacksonville at #8. Denver, Buffalo, Washington, Houston, NY Jets, New England, Miami, and the Giants could all look to move around in the 1st, some up and some down.
So that's that. I hope you have enjoyed my mock drafts this year. I'll be back this fall with an early look at the Class of 2010. Be sure to tune in Saturday at 4pm for the first and second round of the 2009 draft. Head on over to Draft Tek during the event for up-to-date simulations and live commentary.
