Penn State, Rutgers to Meet Again

Penn State AD Tim Curley just announced that the Nittany Lions and Rutgers Scarlet Knights will renew their east coast football rivalry once more in 2014. Penn State will visit Rutgers on September 13, 2014. The Scarlet Knights will travel to Happy Valley in 2015 (September 12).

The teams have not faced each other since 1995, when Penn State outscored Rutgers 59-34 at Giants Stadium. That game was the 14th consecutive meeting between the two schools. Overall there have been 24 PSU/RU games and the Nittany Lions hold at 22-2 series lead. Rutgers two wins came in 1918 and 1988.

Penn State fans are upset with the non-conference slate for 2009, though they'll be rewarded over the next few seasons. As pointed out earlier today, the Nittany Lions have home-and-home series scheduled with Alabama (2010-11), Virginia (2012-13), Nebraska (2014-2015) and now Rutgers (2014-2015). Barry Jackson at the Miami Herald believes that Penn State and Miami are looking to add a home-and-home series as well. Let's hope it's for 2012-13 with Virginia.

So be patient this season, Penn State fans. You'll be rewarded for the next 6+ years.
